Katie & Brent // Grand Cayman

Ok…so this post got ginormous. Sometimes when I get going on my “favorites” from a session, I just get carried away. It’s rare to come across such awesome people as Katie and Brent. Not only are they a gorgeous couple, they are just incredibly awesome people in general.

I met them at Cedarville and we never really hung out much. Brent helped me with my horrid spanish class in May term that I was failing and Katie mostly just lived across the hall from me. It wasn’t until after college that I got to know them a little better. They live in Cincinnati but moved to Grand Cayman a couple years ago for Brent’s work. He is an accountant..does things with numbers and accounts…you know… haha. Katie works for herself designing albums and is a wiz with InDesign. She has a very peaceful personality and is the kind of person that just makes you glad you know them. I would certainly like to be more like her in a lot of ways and I think surrounding yourself with people like that is one of the best things you can do in life. Brent is great too :) They make so much sense together and I just love shooting couples like that.

When katie told me that a lot her friends wanted to learn how to use their camera’s better and suggested that we might be able to plan a small, beginners workshop out there I was all about it. I have not had a legit vacation in years so I figured we might as well kill two birds with one stone. I’ll post more about the workshop later but it wasn’t anything fancy pants, just the basics of using a camera for the most part.

They were nice enough to let me stay at their place for a week. I did the workshop right when I got there and just did nothing the rest of the time. Doing nothing was remarkable. They asked what I wanted to do while I was there and I didn’t have a good answer other than relax but being me, I wasn’t sure what that even meant. Katie was a pro at teaching me the ways of taking it easy. We had a great time and I’m just so grateful to have had the opportunity to take a vacation this year.

Anyways, as a thank you for being such great hosts, I did a super awesome session for them. I was also pretty excited about shooting there as well. It was a really long session which is why there are an astronomical amount of photos, but I’m so happy with how it all came out.

Enjoy! :)

If you look at the 3rd image in this set closely you will notice something…off….in the trees. That was a really awkward moment.

At the end, I just told them to do everything and katie just had a burst of energy and I got this awesome little series. I think this might be my new favorite thing to do. Wear people out from photos, then ask for one last blast of anything they can think of and then be done, hahaha.

JSS - These are gorgeous. You really captured their personalities! What a great keepsake this set will be, commemorating their time here on the island.
